Often the manager have to ask the assistant to find out if he/she would be able to go to a specific meeting, etc. at a requested time. I always try to make friends with 經理助理, so as to tell the weather of the day and wind direction! 助理經理(Assistant Manager) : The person who helps to run the show because there are far too many things the Manager have to do. I find it funny when I later learn that this "GM" means "General Messenger" ... Also, I believe the job title for a mama-san is often "manager" and we all know what kind of manager it really is ... I used to know a restaurant owner who loves to wash dishes - you will always find him washing dishes in the restaurant ...
